Danida awards grant for Ole Mertz and colleagues
The grant supports the project GeoAI for Land Systems Science, a new partnership between UCPH and universities in Rwanda and South Africa.
Professor Ole Mertz and colleagues from IGN and DIKU are among the 2 UCPH recipients of the new Knowledge and Innovation Programme (KIP) grants, awarded by the Danida Fellowship Centre under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
The grant supports the project GeoAI for Land Systems Science, a new partnership between UCPH, University of Rwanda and University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The grant is 25 million for scholarships for African students and 9 million kroner for building educational collaboration between the three universities.
The collaboration will strengthen education and scientific capacity within geography, data science, and GeoAI.
Among other things, a key aspect is that students from Rwanda and South Africa will be able to apply for fully funded scholarships to pursue MSc studies in geography, computer science and related MSc Programmes at the University of Copenhagen.
